Safe Sippy: Review
Since Aiden turned 6 months, we’ve been introducing sips of water. Though we’re primarily teaching him to drink from a glass (that’s an interesting experiment!), the reality is that he needed to learn from a sippy cup of some sort in order to be able to drink water on-the-go.
I opted to teach Aiden to use the Safe Sippy by Kid Basix. The stainless steel bottle has a BPA free nozzle that allows Aiden to use a similar-to-bottle-drinking suck on the bottle.
In order to assist Aiden to learn how to use the bottle, I first removed the valve. This let Aiden figure out that the bottle was for water and how to position his mouth and suck. Today, for the first time, he figured out how to suck with the valve in. Yay!
Although Aiden hasn’t yet figured out how to use the bottle with the handles, he does seem interested in them. That’s our next challenge. As a bonus, they are removable so that the bottle can grow with him past the traditional “sippy” cup stage.
We also have a SugarBooger Sippy Cup that we use at mealtime. My goal is to transition to this cup, sans lid, as an easier-than-a-glass option for Aiden to sip water on his own.
