Words Aiden Can “Say”

Though we’ve speculated that Aiden’s first actual word is hat, he’s yet to continue saying it beyond those initial two times. No other words have emerged, though his language is evolving. His gibberish can be extremely complex – it’s like he’s speaking a whole other language, not just repeating sounds.

Just last week, he started to repeat back sounds on cue – a late bloomer to this skill. He won’t repeat every sound, but is starting to clue in to the game. Just today, for example, he finally tried to copy “Mama” by saying a single “Ma”.

There are also a lot of sounds he makes that mean words:

  • Tede or dede for Teddy (one of his first phrases)
  • Bebe for baby (rare)
  • Meme for Mommy
  • Boo for Moo (he’ll say this when prompted with ‘what does the cow say’ or with a cow photo)
  • Ow and once Mmm-ow for Meow (same as above with the cow – ‘Ow is his favorite sound right now because he loves cats)
  • Dede for Daddy
  • Hiiieeee for Hi
  • Baa (sheep sound)
  • Diss (for this, combined with pointing when he wants to know what something is)
  • Wheeeee, the happy sound
  • Nom nom for food
  • uh-oh

Things he might have said, but has yet to repeat:

  • Tweet tweet (used in combo with the ‘bird’ sign)
  • Ismas for Christmas
  • Hat
  • Bye-bye
  • Readdiss for ‘read this’

I’m not sure what to put down in his baby book as his first word… but all of this is fun stuff!
