Where Do You Shop for Kids Books?
I love to read to Aiden, and love going to bookstores to find some new gems for our collection. I don’t feel guilty about buying books, I see them as more of an investment. If I’m going to spend over an hour a day reading to Aiden, I may as well choose books I like too!
Lately I’ve tried to go outside of Chapters to see what other books I can find. I’m getting tired of the flashcard-y “first words” / “first colours” etc books – there’s no story to them! Aiden’s taken a fancy to books that have more of a rhyme to them, so we’re exploring longer nursery rhymes and some stories too.
We shop for kids books at:
- Costco (though they tend to be more gimmicky books than story books)
- Chapters / Indigo (store)
- Amazon.com (though too much choice is overwhelming!)
- Kidsbooks
- Winners
- Library book sales (where we found two of our current fave stories, Chugga Chugga Choo Choo and We Were Tired of Living in a House)
I’d love to know where you search for books – do chime in!!

We also check out the book rack at Boomers and Echoes whenever we're there. Sometimes there are some great deals to be had on consignment.
Great idea! I don't think I've checked their book section, just their toys.
Superstore sometimes carries some good ones as well.
Do you have some faves?
Zayden's faves right now are Heads, Yum Yum Dim Sum, I Love You As Much, That's Not My Lion, and any books with pictures of dogs in them. He also likes any books where he can search and find pictures of things he knows, so those first word/colours/numbers books are very popular right now.
