Cates Park Review

Cates Park is the largest seaside park in North Vancouver and a park I’ve known my whole life. Though the park has seen many upgrades since my time, it still retains its charm by combining the seaside with large expanses of open lawn. It’s very popular for picnics and barbeques in the summer time, not to mention swimming! It’s not the sandiest of beaches, but little kids don’t notice those things, do they?

Located just off of Dollarton Highway, the park is easy to access and has ample parking, except on busy festival days.

The playground has recently been updated and is fantastic – it features two playground areas, one somewhat smaller than the other (smaller is pictured above). Though the steps on both playgrounds do not come down to toddler height, the only major drawback, it does have lots of activities.

I wouldn’t say that the park is as toddler friendly as others, lacking low stairs and having some higher drops that need to be navigated by watchful parents, but it does contain some great features. Aside from the bounty of outdoor space, it also has a fun rocking boat and a disabled-friendly swing. There is also a cafe and on-site washroom.

Stay tuned for a review of Little Cates Park!
