Pet Peeve: “Buttons” on Posters

I’m so cool. I use the Twitter. I’m on the Facebook. I interact with my customers, you know. I get it. So come join me! Click on my buttons to follow me!

IT’S A BUS. You can’t click buttons on a bus back. So don’t use button icons, moron. Do you really think I’m going to search on Google, Twitter or Facebook to find your exact handle? And which one is it? There are hundreds of remax locations and agents – which one did you mean?

Next time, think before you spend oodles of money trying to look cool by having social media icons on a bus back. It’s just as easy to say @outstandingmoron as it is to put the twitter logo.

Speaking at Northern Voice was Fun

I have to admit I’m still recovering from the weekend. After two days presenting and moderating at Northern Voice, along with the networking and learning, I was all for taking a day or two to just chill out. But I still want to talk about what a great time I had at the conference. This was our 7th year at Northern Voice (crazy!), though it was my first as presenter.

My panel with Raul was a lot of fun – the 45 minutes just flew by! I was a little intimidated by the size of the room – even my talks at BlogHer were not as large – but it was all ok when it got rolling. I felt like Raul & I had great synergy and we received some great feedback.

I loved being up there talking again, sharing my knowledge and experience. I wish there had been more time to go over things in detail. For those of you looking to get more information about how to build online communities, our e-book is available for sale.

Northern Voice 2011: Communities That Rock Panel & E-book

Buy the ebook!

Later this afternoon at Northern Voice 2011 I will be presenting a panel with Raul Pacheco on “Communities that Rock: Creating Kick-Ass Online Communities.

The topic is a large one, more than we can easily cover in a 45-minute session. To that end, Raul and I decided to co-author an e-book that would build upon our session. The e-book will be far more detailed than our talk, but is also built as a stand-alone book for people interested in learning how to build an effective community online.

The e-book and talk both talk about how to define your online community and how to find your voice. We show how you can use your blog as your social media hub, using tools like Twitter and Facebook to enhance your community experience.

You can learn more about the e-book and purchase it for $5.99 here.

Soon available on Kindle!

For those at Northern Voice, feel free to come up and say hi before or after our session. Our session will be open for discussion, so questions are welcome. I also have ActiveMama buttons to hand out!

Nominated in Ultimate Mom Blogger 2011 List

Thank you to the family and friends who took the time to nominate me for the VancouverMom.ca Ultimate Mom Blogger list for 2011. The list is compiled of the favourite mom blogs in Vancouver, minus the 2010 nominees (which is a little odd). You can read my profile here, where I have the honour of being the first to be profiled.

All of the top 30 mom bloggers have now been profiled, but only one will get “crowned” as top blogger on Mother’s Day at a special event.

There are some great moms listed this year and last year, so take a peak around at the other profiles. I will soon be asking you for your votes as well!

Help Me Design My Buttons – Vote!

I’m designing some ActiveMama buttons in anticipation of Northern Voice and wanted your help choosing my designs! I can choose 3 designs for the print run, and these are my top 6:

I am pretty sure #3 will be chosen, but I’m not sure for the other two. The ‘team baby’ is a bit of a play on last year’s controversy… but is it too conference-specific? Or does it matter? Please help me by voting in the poll below for your favourite designs (up to 3):

What's your favorite outdoor activity with the family?

Please note: the button will be what appears on the inner circle. The design / colours between the outer and inner circles represents the bleed area / how the button will wrap.
